The Muskingum University Business Office unveiled a new payment option to student employees beginning July 1, 2016.
The Muskie Pay system was added in addition to the direct deposit and paper checks issued to students on payroll.
Muskingum University Accountant and Treasury Manager, Jessica Canfield, said the switch was inevitable.
“Because of regulation changes between PNC Bank and the Department of Education, we had to make the switch,” said Canfield, adding the new Muskie Pay Card was made with student safety and convenience in mind.
Students can still choose to have their paychecks deposited directly into their account if they prefer that option.
“If you have a bank account that you’re used to, then I suggest the ACH [Automated Clearing House direct deposit] method,” said Canfield, adding students unfamiliar with direct deposit should use the Muskie Pay Card.
Canfield said that there has been very little reaction from the student body due to the fact that many students are not back on campus as of yet and have not experienced the change.
