A Muskingum University senior attended the Joint Mathematics Meetings conference in Atlanta, Georgia Jan. 4-7.
Leah Buck, mathematics major with a double minor in English and German at Muskingum, said looking back she feels lucky to have been invited.
“On the surface it didn’t feel different from the other conferences I had attended in the past,” said Buck. “However, looking back now, it really was awesome to have been a part of the largest math conference in the world. I really am living the dream.”
Buck was the only student to attend from Muskingum. She went with her Research Experience for Undergraduates mentor, Tamas Forgacs.
Buck was able to present mathematical research in front of other students as well as listen to lectures given by both students and faculty from universities across the country. She also had the chance to speak to graduate schools she is interested in attending.
After graduating from Muskingum University, Buck plans to attend graduate school to achieve her long term goal of becoming a mathematics professor.
