The Muskingum Softball team opened up their home schedule with a resounding sweep of a double header against Ohio Wesleyan March 18.
The Muskies won the first game 6-5 and the second 11-3 in just five innings.
In the first contest Sarah Browning got the win pitching a complete game. Browning gave up all five runs and struck out six.
With the game tied at five going into the bottom of the seventh, the Muskies got a triple from Amber Bova to lead off the inning. Freshman Melissa Maiorano then drove a shot deep to right field bouncing off the fence for the walk-off game winner, driving Bova home to win the game 6-5.
In the second contest the Muskies got jumped on early as the Battling Bishops put up three runs in the second inning.
The Muskies countered with five run bottom of the second to take the lead and never looked back. That inning was highlighted by a three-run shot over the left field fence by Kelly Martin.
The Muskies continued to pour it on, getting a two-run homer from Alyxis Moore to break the game wide open and put the Muskies up eight after four innings.
Kristin Gill was tagged for the win in the second game after coming on for starter Haley Dotson after the second inning. Gill dropped her ERA to 3.15 after not allowing a run in three innings of relief.
The wins bring the Muskies to 7-7 overall on the season, with a key OAC matchup at John Carroll coming up on March 21. Follow live home stats on Orbit Media Sports’ Twitter account.
