South Liberty Street Bridge Update

The wooden bridge on South Liberty Street is expected to open within the next thirty to forty-five days, according to former New Concord Village Administrator, John Huey at the September 26 Village Council meeting. The bridge was inspected today by Burgess & Niple (B&N), the engineering company hired by Genesee and Wyoming Railroad, owners of the bridge. Inspectors from B&N said they will return next week to perform a load rating on the bridge. Once the load rating occurs, repairs can be assessed and begun. Huey is optimistic in the results and said parts have already been ordered for repairs.  The wooden bridge closed in July when deemed unsafe by the Muskingum County Engineer after it saw an increase in traffic from the State Route 83 bridge detour. The State Route 83 bridge reopened last month.
