Student Senate welcomed Muskingum University students to the first meeting of the fall semester Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Student Senate currently has seven members: President Kayla Wilkerson, Vice President Nicholas Fulton, Treasurer Gabe Shetler, Sophomore Representative Maysen Moorehead, Public Relations Chair Peyton Colbert, Student Life Representative Zoey Stenson, and Greek Life Representative Zachary Mitchell.

President Wilkerson addressed improvements that Student Senate is trying to implement this year. One improvement is to install display screens in campus buildings to communicate what is happening around campus. Wilkerson said these installations will eliminate flyers and modernize university announcements.

Another change Wilkerson addressed is the replacement of the OrgSync platform. OrgSync was an online student portal for access to forms, files, and applications from around the campus. The Muskingum University community can now use Presence, otherwise known as The N.E.T.

The OrgSync platform has been replaced with a software called Presence.

Along with these changes, Wilkerson expressed the need for more members on Student Senate, including a freshman class representative, junior class representative, and senior class representative.

Student Senate is also looking for an executive ambassador, who would coordinate with Student Life, in addition to a diversity relations representative.

Student Senate open seat positions are available for application through Friday, Sept 14. Elections will be held from Sept. 17-21. Details about the elections and how to get involved are included in the Daily Student Digest email.

Muskingum students wishing to run for an open Student Senate seat are required to collect 20 votes and hold a 2.7 cumulative grade point average.

Student Senate General Assembly meetings, now named “Town Hall”, are held every other Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. Student Senate meets during off weeks during executive meetings to make decisions about finances and other campus issues.
