Women’s Lacrosse Loses Inaugural Game to Yellow Jackets

The Muskingum women’s Lacrosse team lost against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in their inaugural game at Muskingum 14-11.

The team started off well, with the Muskies taking a 1-0 lead after Freshman Ashley Adams scored the first point ever for Muskingum’s Women’s Lacrosse with just over 27 minutes left to go in the first half. Waynesburg came back with 4 straight goals to take the lead 4-2 with just over 11 minutes in the half.

The speedy Adams scored 3 straight goals to put the Muskies up 5-4, scoring the third with 9:10 left In the game. The Muskies continued their dominance in the first half scoring 3 more goals before the end of the half, giving the Muskies an 8-4 lead. Freshman Katie Megury added 2 goals in the first half.

The Muskies started the second half strong, with Megury and Waynesburg Junior Sarah Bookhammer exchanging goals early keeping the 4 point Muskie lead at 9-5.

The Muskies were unable to keep pace with the Yellow Jackets, not being able to score in over 12 minutes after that where Waynesburg quickly figured out Muskingum Goalie Samantha Abrahamsen, scoring 9 straight goals off of her to take the lead 14-10.

Muskingum Senior Brianna Bonacci finally ended the Waynesburgh scoring streak, scoring with 2:21 left in the game, making the final goal of the night for the Muskies.

Adams ended the night with a team leading 5 goals, with Megury and Bonacci adding 3 each as well.

The team will be looking towards their next game, scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 at Transylania at 4:00 PM.
