Village Council shares plans for sidewalk project

New Concord Village Council held their monthly meeting Monday, Sept. 14.  Robert Dickson, New Concord Village Council President, along with Charlotte Colley, Village Administrator, shared an infrastructure plan to improve village sidewalks. 

The plan, called the 2020 Sidewalk Project, has been created to repair sidewalks that are damaged on multiple homeowners properties in the community. “We have several people interested in getting their sidewalks repair this year,” said Dickson.

Homeowners who receive the sidewalk repairs will reimburse the village for 50% of the repairs.

“As soon as I get in touch with everyone and make sure they’re all comfortable with the 50/50 split…as soon as I have that information, I’ll update council on where we are,” said Colley.

Colley is contacting homeowners and they have the option to opt out if they wish. The village estimated the total cost to be between $12,700-$13,000 if all homeowners agree to the project.

Council and finance committee member Steve Wootton said the village will pay the upfront price of the project. Council unanimously voted to create the budget by borrowing money from a general fund they already have established.

Muskingum Softball hires new assistants

The Muskingum Athletic Department hired Shauna Mulkerin and Carol Oberhelman as assistant coaches for the Lady Muskies Softball program.

Shauna Mulkerin is one of two new assistant coaches for the Muskingum Softball program. Mulkerin previously coach at Muhlenberg College from 2017 to 2020.

Mulkerin was the assistant coach for Muhlenberg College from 2017 to 2020. While at Muhlenberg College, she organized practice plans, equipment inventory, scouting reports, team clinics, and recruiting.

Before Muhlenberg, Mulkerin was the assistant coach for State University of New York at New Paltz. She played for four years at Manhattanville College, where she was a team captain. Mulkerin graduated in 2014 from Manhattanville with a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies and a minor in sports studies. She also received her Masters of Science in sports business management from Manhattanville in 2015.

Carol Oberhelman is a new assistant for the Lady Muskies Softball team. Olberhelman was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-American for Lynchburg University.

Oberhelman played four years at Lynchburg University. In 2019, she helped the team reach the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Regional and Super Regional Tournaments. She was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-American.

Oberhelman coached the 16-year-old age group with the Lady Ravens Club Softball Organization and was also a camp counselor in baseball and softball summer camps for the Tee Baseball School. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Lynchburg in health and physical education in 2020.
