The New Concord Police Department announced on March 17 that they will be providing a new service to parents in the village.

Parents who are leaving their older kids at home while they are at work during the coronavirus pandemic can request for a NCPD Officer to check on their child to ensure their safety while home alone.

The East Muskingum School District, with the order of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, closed March 16 and is expecting to open on April 6. This leaves many parents with the need for childcare or someone to check in on older kids.

For the department to do a check in, the following information is needed:

  • The number of children in the household
  • Age of children
  • The parent(s) shift schedule
  • When parent(s) would like the check-up
  • Address
  • Parent(s) phone number

New Concord Police Chief Mindy Peck said she saw other agencies with a similar program and wanted to give back to the community.

“I wanted us [NCPD] to do our part and offer something to the village that can help in this trying time,” said Peck.

Parents who are interested in the department’s service or has questions about the service can contact Village Hall Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at (740) 826-7671.
