The Village of New Concord Leadership Team sent the following notice Tuesday, March 17:

“In an effort to preserve the health and safety of Village employees Village Hall, and all other Village government buildings, are now closed to the public. We recognize that this may be an inconvenience but ask that residents, businesses and visitors work with us to get through this challenging time.

Village employees will continue their regular responsibilities Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and all public services will continue. Communication with Village employees is best conducted over the phone or via email. If you encounter a Village employee who working in the field and have a question or need information please maintain a safe social distance. It is important to maintain the health of Village employees to ensure that operations and services are not interrupted due to illness and absence from work.

Should you need to speak with an employee in person we have established a walk-up window to allow for this interaction to occur. The window is located to the right of the front door of Village Hall along Main Street (2 West Main Street). Important phone numbers, email addresses and website information have been posted on all Village Hall doors, will be published electronically and are listed at the end of this communication.

Water/Sewer payments, court payments and tax returns can be placed in the dropbox outside of the main door of Village Hall. Employees will continue to process credit card payments through the walk-up window or over the phone. Water service will not be shut off at this time but all water/sewer bills must be paid. A payment arrangement can be made with the billing clerk if necessary.

To request a police report or accident report please email the clerk of courts, listed below, and an electronic copy will be sent to you free of charge. Those with questions or concerns should call or email the Village.

Village employees will no longer be entering private residences for non-emergency issues (such as investigating water leaks). The New Concord Police Department will be taking protective measures for Officers and the public including discontinuing fingerprinting and filing of police reports at Village Hall.  If you need to file a police report for a non-emergency issue or speak to an Officer please call the non-emergency number listed below.

The New Concord Fire Department will continue to respond to emergencies but non-emergency interactions with the general public will now be handled remotely if necessary. For all non-emergency issues please call the Fire Department duty phone number or the non-emergency dispatch number listed below. For all emergencies please dial 9-1-1.

At this point there are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Muskingum County. Yesterday, March 16, the federal government issued guidance to limit gatherings to 10 people or less. All Village events and non-essential meetings have been canceled or postponed.

The Village will continue to follow the guidance of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department, the Muskingum County Emergency Management Association (EMA), the Ohio EPA, the State of Ohio and the Federal Government as we navigate the future of our operations.

We encourage those in our community to be aware of the needs of others. Please check on neighbors if you can do so safely, remember to maintain the recommended 6-foot distance from other individuals, wash your hands often and try to remain calm during this difficult time. Should you have a concern about the health or well-being of someone in the community please contact the non-emergency line of the Muskingum County Dispatch group so that the information can be quickly relayed to the proper agencies.

Please share this information with those you know who may not have access to email or social media. Thank you for working with the Village to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Working together we can make the best of a difficult situation.
