New Concord Village Council unanimously voted during Monday’s Aug. 26 emergency village council meeting to allow Mayor Brett Essex to enter into an agreement to purchase a New Concord Fire Department ladder truck.

The current NCFD ladder truck was damaged in June during an assist run to Coshocton. Assistant Fire Chief Troy Cole shared concern during the meeting about not having the ladder truck in the current fleet of response vehicles.

“If you have a bedroom taller than 35 feet off the ground, we cannot help you. Cambridge is our closest ladder…five minutes. A fire will grow twice as much before we can get there,” said Cole.

The incoming truck will be a used 1997 Sutphen Aerial Platform truck.

The village will receive consultation from an outside company to prepare for the high costs of the ladder truck purchase. Village Hall can be contacted for more information.
